Çâåçäà Âîëüôà-Ðàéå WR 124: ìàøèíà çâåçäíîãî âåòðà Wolf Rayet Star 124: Stellar Wind Machine
8.03.2020

Some stars explode in slow motion. Rare, massive Wolf-Rayet stars are so tumultuous and hot that they are slowly disintegrating right before our telescopes. Glowing gas globs each typically over 30 times more massive than the Earth are being expelled by violent stellar winds.

Îáðàìëåííîå äåðåâüÿìè: îêíî â Ãàëàêòèêó Framed by Trees: A Window to the Galaxy
19.07.2021

The photographer had this shot in mind for some time. He knew that objects overhead are the brightest -- since their light is scattered the least by atmospheric air. He also that knew the core of our Milky Way Galaxy was just about straight up near midnight around this time of year in South Australia.

Ãëóáîêîå íåáî â íàïðàâëåíèè Àíäðîìåäû The Deep Sky Toward Andromeda
8.09.2021

What surrounds the Andromeda galaxy? Out in space, Andromeda (M31) is closely surrounded by several small satellite galaxies, and further out it is part of the Local Group of Galaxies -- of which our Milky Way galaxy is also a member.

Ïîëíîå çàòìåíèå è êîìåòû APOD: 2024 April 17 Á Total Eclipse and Comets
17.04.2024

Not one, but two comets appeared near the Sun during last week's total solar eclipse. The expected comet was Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, but it was disappointingly dimmer than many had hoped. However, relatively unknown Comet SOHO-5008 also appeared in long duration camera exposures.

Ñåé÷àñ ìîæíî óâèäåòü Íîâóþ V462 Âîëêà APOD: 2025 July 3 Á Nova V462 Lupi Now Visible
3.07.2025

If you know where to look, you can see a thermonuclear explosion from a white dwarf star. Possibly two. Such explosions are known as novas and the detonations are currently faintly visible with the unaided eye in Earth's southern hemisphere -- but are more easily seen with binoculars.

Êîñìè÷åñêèå æåì÷óæèíû ñâåðõíîâîé 1987A SN1987A s Cosmic Pearls
20.02.2004

In February 1987, light from the brightest stellar explosion seen in modern times reached Earth -- supernova SN1987A. This Hubble Space Telescope image from the sharp Advanced Camera for Surveys taken in November 2003 shows the explosion site over 16 years later.

Ñâèôò ñìîòðèò íà êîìåòó Òåìïåëÿ 1 A Swift Look at Tempel 1
3.07.2005

Comet Tempel 1 is targeted for a collision with the impactor probe from NASA's Deep Impact Spacecraft at about 1:52am EDT on July 4th (other time zones). Cameras on the impactor probe...

Ìëàäøåå Êðàñíîå Ïÿòíî Red Spot Jr
18.03.2006

Jupiter's Great Red Spot, is a swirling storm seen for over 300 years, since the begining of telescopic observations of the Solar System's ruling gas giant. But over the last month it has been joined by Red Spot Jr.

Òåìíûå îáëàêà â òóìàííîñòè Êèëÿ Dark Clouds of the Carina Nebula
28.05.2008

What dark forms lurk in the mists of the Carina Nebula? These ominous figures are actually molecular clouds, knots of molecular gas and dust so thick they have become opaque. In comparison, however, these clouds are typically much less dense than Earth's atmosphere.

Íåïîëíàÿ Åâðîïà Gibbous Europa
8.03.2009

Although the phase of this moon might appear familiar, the moon itself might not. In fact, this gibbous phase shows part of Jupiter's moon Europa. The robot spacecraft Galileo captured this image mosaic during its mission orbiting Jupiter from 1995 - 2003.
