SSAU team successfully launched an experimental rocket with a military training ground in France

10.08.2015, 17:16

SSAU students brought to the forum a two-stage rocket 2.5 meters in length and 16 cm in diameter, inside which three atmospheric sounders CanSat, various electronics, parachutes and engines were placed. Among the additional electronics were the following: accelerometer, magnetometer, rate-measuring device and a device for transmitting information to the Earth.

One sounder launched by the Samara rocket was made within a framework of the joint project of students from SSAU and Toulouse Institute of Space Aeronautics ISAE-Supaero. A pilot probe for the flight velocity measurement was installed on the rocket made by SSAU students for the first time. Its data gave an option of opening the parachutes at the highest point of the flight path at a height about 1.2 km.

“The experimental SSAU rocket attracted a lot of attention from the Forum participants. They evaluated workmanship, materials used, and liked the colour scheme of the rocket”, - reports the team member Aleksandr Kvetkin.

After the successful launch Samara team was able to find only the first stage of their rocket, which was dropped down to earth on a parachute. In the estimation of most students, perhaps the second rocket stage was carried away by a strong wind. “Our main goal in this experiment is a missile staging in flight and it was successful. It's very good, because the system was new for us. It has completed work perfectly“, - noted Kvetkin.

The International Forum C'Space is annual and it is dedicated to development of the university activities in the field of small rockets engineering and atmospheric sounders. SSAU participate in the forum since 2011.

SSAU students already performed four successful launches of the existing models of carrier rockets “Soyuz” in France, making the small rockets design more perfect every year. In 2015, 200 students gathered at the military base CampdeGer near the town of Tarb, among them there were the future rocket scientists, programmers, designers of electronics. In total, the event was visited about thirty teams with different projects. Most of the teams were from France.

Traditionally, two teams from Japan, a team from Austria and a team from Samara State Aerospace University participate in C'Space.
