The Tenth International Summer Space School starts this week

19.08.2014, 09:36

Interuniversity Department of Space Research of Samara State Aerospace University named after S. P. Korolev (National Research University) will hold holds the Tenth International Summer Space School “Future Space Technologies and Experiments in Space” from August 24 to September 6.

Russian Academy of Cosmonautics named after K. E. Tsyolkovskiy (Volga Department) and State Scientific and Production Space and Missile Centre “Central Specialised Construction Bureau Progress” participate in organizing and conducting of the School.

The School conduction is supported by the Russian Space Agency, the International Astronautical Federation and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

It is expected that the School will be attended by students and engineers from the five European countries: representatives of the technical universities of Lulea (Sweden), Bologna (Italy), Berlin and Wurzburg (Germany), Thomas Moore (Belgium), University of Pembroke (UK), Latin America, India, Canada, as well as Belarus and SSAU, 40 people in total.

The main aim of the School is to create a single interuniversity educational environment in the area of advanced space technologies. The complexity of the proposed two-week innovative program is estimated at 3.5 ECTS (European educational credit units).

The Research and Education Schools Program is focused on improving the young people's interest (undergraduate and graduate students) to professional work in the field of space, to participation in the creation and conduction of experiments in space, aimed at obtaining the new fundamental knowledge and technologies testing that can be practically applied. The emphasis will be on the study of technologies for creation and use of scientific and educational CubeSat class nanosatellites using the example of the nanosatellite SamSatQB50, created in SSAU.

In addition to leading university teachers the lectures will also be read by Dr. Anna Herman - Head of the Space Centre of the University of Beira (Portugal), and Dr. Pierre Roaches - Head of the Liege Space Centre (Belgium). Anna Herman will read four lectures on cable systems, Pierre Roaches will tell about the space environment and its role in satellites design. Round table conference on cooperation and common development of educational programs in the field of space will be held with participation of Pierre Rochester, who is also the Chairman of the Administrative Committee on Space University of the International Astronautical Federation.

The School Program includes conduction of video conferences with the Headquarter of the World Association of Space University, which is located at the University of Kyoto (Japan).

During the School work students will become familiar with SSAU (laboratories, scientific experiment programs), development plans of the Space and Missile Centre “Progress”, including creation and launch of new types of scientific spacecrafts Foton / Bion. Students will explore fundamentals of Near-Earth  Space Physics, will be familiar with the use of modern computer technology (software packages ProEngineer, Altium Designer) mikronanosatellites design, electronic systems engineering, space missions analysis; will listen to lectures and perform laboratory and practical training in modern technologies of orientation, stabilization, navigation, development of energy supply systems, telemetry, on-board control systems applied to micro / nanosatellites.

The School participants will become familiar with the sights of Samara and its surroundings will make a walk along the river Volga, visit museums, theatres, philharmonic. The School work is reflected on the site.
