SSAU plans to create a laboratory for structural dynamic analysis of aircraft engines

03.07.2014, 09:40

Representatives of SSAU and the Polytechnic University of Turin held talks in Samara to discuss prospects for development of international cooperation in structural dynamic analysis of rotar systems of aircraft engines. Dean of the Faculty of Aircraft Engines, Professor A. I. Yermakov, Head of the Department of Construction and Design of Aircraft Engines Professor S. Falaleev and Head of the Research Laboratory Dimec Aermec, Vice-Rector of Polytechnic University of Turin, Professor Muzio Gola participated in this discussion. During the negotiations, it was agreed to establish a research laboratory for structural dynamic analysis of aircraft engines in SSAU. This laboratory will bring together efforts of scientists of the two countries in studying the vibration and damping of engine elements.

In SSAU scientists of the Department of Construction and Engineering of Flight-Type Engines and Industry-specific Scientific Research Laboratory No. 1 investigate dynamic processes in the turbocharger impellers for decades, resulting in developed unique computational methods. In Italy, Professor Gola experimentally investigates dampers to reduce the amplitudes and stresses in compressors and turbines blades and discs, and conducts unique experiments at temperatures up to 1000° C. Professor Gola agreed to lead the new laboratory after consultations with the leadership of his university. Professor Gola is an internationally recognized scientist in his field and has high rates of citation of his articles.

Representatives of Central Institute of Aviation Motors have already expressed interest to the new laboratory activities.

The cooperation started from visit of S. V. Falaleev, Head of Department of Construction and Engineering of Flight-Type Engines, in Turin a year ago. During that visit, the question of internship of Daniel Vernyano, a student of the Polytechnic University of Turin, at the Department of Construction and Engineering of Flight-Type Engines in SSAU was agreed with Professor Gola. Currently Vernyano finished his work on a master's thesis in SSAU and Professor Gola arrived to discuss the obtained results, as well as to participate in the international scientific conference "Problems and prospects of development of engine building" as a member of the Organizing Committee. Professor Gola made a report at the plenary session of the conference within the framework of the visit to Samara. He also expressed a desire to read series of lectures for SSAU graduate students and undergraduates this fall.
