SSAU expects to double the number of enrolled foreign students

20.06.2014, 12:05

Samara State Aerospace University begins to accept documents from the applicants from June 20. This year SSAU provides 1429 state-funded places for admission in all kinds and directions of educational programs.

There is a strong growth of popularity in technical training areas among the applicants in the university during the last 2-3 years. In this regard it was decided to increase the enrolment of students in Bachelor and Specialist Degree Program on 55 state-funded places in 2014. This is mainly due to development of modern and advanced fields of study such as “nanoengineering”. It is also connected with introduction of a new type of training – “Applied Bachelor Program”. Thus, the total number of state-funded places on the base level programs is 1,250 places in 2014 (excluding Master Program).

In addition, SSAU Admission Committee notes the substantial increase in interest from the foreign applicants this year. The number of applications from foreign countries has already surpassed last year's totals - 76 applications. Based on the experience of admission campaigns of previous years, SSAU expects summer 2014 to enrol about 150 foreign students in the university.

“We may see an increase in popularity of technical education as well as in number of the most talented and promising graduates choosing SSAU for higher education - said Sergey Goryainov, Executive Secretary of SSAU Admission Committee. - This year, the average passing grade (in three subjects) for engineering professions in SSAU remain at last year's level - 170-180 grades on the unified national exam. But we understand that the quality of these results is significantly higher than last year. Measures to improve the procedure of passing a single exam began to yield results. And although this year the average grades on the unified national exam fell significantly almost in all subjects, the quality and objectivity of these assessments is significantly higher than last year”.

For reference. Samara State Aerospace University is one of the leading universities in the country. It is included among the 15 leading Russian universities, which have received state support aimed at their entry into the international top 100. The program to improve SSAU competitiveness is currently approved and implemented.
In addition to progress in the world rankings, realization of the “road map” events will allow SSAU to achieve several key objectives: recruit about 80 scientists of world importance, create 21 international scientific laboratories, tripling the number of foreign students. Also SSAU will create four “centres of excellence” - the main research areas of the university development, corresponding to the breakthrough world technologies.
In addition, a new SSAU campus will be built from 2018 to 2020, and it will be a platform for innovative inter-university centre, which will be grouped advanced scientific laboratories of the leading regional universities.
