The Honorable Director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs sent to me a stone which fell from the air, weighing 11 pounds, for preservation in one of the educational institutions. This stone was received from The Honorable Civil Governor of Kursk. The Honorable Civil Governor of Kursk explains in his journal of events presented with his report to His Highness of October 17 of last year, that this stone fell with a loud noise in Putilov Uezd near Bochechki village on May 27. Thirty peasants were witnesses of this event.
Upon chemical tests, this stone proved to consist of a small portion of iron oxide, plenty of sulfur, lime, clay and sandy particles. The stone appeared a hard and solid material but its examination showed that it was fragile and friable.
