India started the development of GSLV Mk3, a vehicle capable of launching 4400 to 6000 kg to geostationary transfer orbit. Meanwhile, Indian upper stage CUSP should be tested aboard the third GSLV Mk1 in 2003.

Igor Afanasyev reviews the development history of the Russian Reusable Aerospace Plane MVKS in 1986-1992 and follow-on flight experiments with the hypersonic testbed Kholod in cooperation with France and United States. Currently, TsIAM develops modular hypersonic ramjet engine being a 1:6 model of a 'real' aerospace plane engine, and a new testbed Igla.
