The complex of simulating facilities of Russian segment of the ISS enables the cosmonauts to study the actual interior of the modules, on-board equipment and hardware, to master skills in operating the on-board systems and scientific equipment in standard and off-nominal procedures, as well as to train how to carry out experiments and research work, TV - and video-shooting, and to operate, maintain and repair the module's systems and equipment.

The complex of simulating facilities of Russian segment of the ISS consists of:

  • Functional Cargo Block (FGB) simulator;
  • Service Module (SM) simulator;
  • Docking Assembly training mock-up;
  • Universal Docking Module trainer;
  • Scientific-Power/Energy Platform training mock-up.

    The RS ISS simulators and trainers operate under conditions of a collective usage of computation devices, training monitoring and control facilities, independent means of exterior visual situation imitation both autonomously and jointly, forming a combined engineering complex. The remaining training facilities operate independently and have an information link (possibility of link) with each other, as well with the informational systems of the Center outside of a real time.

    The organizational principles of the ISS simulators construction are based on the following positions:

  • Each partner participating in the ISS construction elaborates and develops simulators and trainers of its own segment on a home base;
  • Training of astronauts on the station segments' operation is carried out on the basis of countries - customers, investigators and researchers;
  • The final stage of training and pre-launch procedures of crews is carried out on the basis of the partner, who will launch the manned space vehicle (in Russia, in the USA);
  • Cosmonauts training is carried out by means of specialized and integrated simulators and stands, enabling the crew and ground-support personnel to train procedures on the payload and systems operation of all ISS elements at different stages of space flight, as well as to provide the safety of a joint crew and the ISS survivability, with taking into account the crewmembers functional duties and the ground-support personnel responsibilities.
