Область звездообразования NGC 6357 Star Forming Region NGC 6357
19.12.2006

For reasons unknown, NGC 6357 is forming some of the most massive stars ever discovered. Near the more obvious Cat's Paw nebula, NGC 6357 houses the open star cluster Pismis 24, home to these tremendously bright and blue stars.

Триплет в Стрельце A Sagittarius Triplet
9.08.2015

These three bright nebulae are often featured in telescopic tours of the constellation Sagittarius and the crowded starfields of the central Milky Way. In fact, 18th century cosmic tourist Charles Messier cataloged two of them; M8, the large nebula left of center, and colorful M20 on the right.

NGC 2174: звёзды и горы NGC 2174: Stars Versus Mountains
8.02.2011

It's stars versus gas mountains in NGC 2174 and the stars are winning. More precisely, the energetic light and winds from massive newly formed stars are evaporating and dispersing the dark stellar nurseries in which they formed.

Туманность Лагуна от телескопа Pan-STARRS Pan STARRS Across the Lagoon
24.04.2019

Ridges of glowing interstellar gas and dark dust clouds inhabit the turbulent, cosmic depths of the Lagoon Nebula. Also known as M8, the bright star forming region is about 5,000 light-years distant.

В центре Лебедя Central Cygnus
3.01.2007

Supergiant star Gamma Cygni lies at the center of the Northern Cross, famous asterism in the constellation Cygnus the Swan. Known by the proper name Sadr, the bright star also lies at the center...

M95: спиральная галактика с внутренним кольцом M95: Spiral Galaxy with an Inner Ring
28.05.2019

Why do some spiral galaxies have a ring around the center? First and foremost, M95 is one of the closer examples of a big and beautiful barred spiral galaxy. Visible in the featured combination...

NGC 6357: собор для массивных звезд NGC 6357: Cathedral to Massive Stars
29.08.2020

How massive can a normal star be? Estimates made from distance, brightness and standard solar models had given one star in the open cluster Pismis 24 over 200 times the mass of our Sun, making it one of the most massive stars known.

Величественная спиральная галактика NGC 1232 APOD: 2024 January 1 Б NGC 1232: A Grand Design Spiral Galaxy
31.12.2023

Galaxies are fascinating not only for what is visible, but for what is invisible. Grand spiral galaxy NGC 1232, captured in detail by one of the Very Large Telescopes, is a good example.

Планетарная туманность NGC 2438 Planetary Nebula NGC 2438
7.04.2011

NGC 2438 is a planetary nebula, the gaseous shroud cast off by a dying sunlike star billions of years old whose central reservoir of hydrogen fuel has been exhausted. About 3,000 light-years distant it lies within the boundaries of the nautical constellation Puppis.

Семь сестер против Калифорнии APOD: 2025 March 5 Б Seven Sisters versus California
4.03.2025

On the right, dressed in blue, is the Pleiades. Also known as the Seven Sisters and M45, the Pleiades is one of the brightest and most easily visible open clusters on the sky. The Pleiades contains over 3,000 stars, is about 400 light years away, and only 13 light years across.
