The 82nd Name-List of Variable Stars. Part III – RA 20h to 24h and Novae

We present the third part of the new Name-List of variable stars containing information on 1043 variable stars recently designated in the system of the General Catalogue of Variable Stars. With the exception of Novae named upon request from the IAU CBAT or by our initiative, these stars are in the range of J2000.0 right ascensions from 20 hours 00 minutes to 24 hours 00 minutes.

1. INTRODUCTION

This is the third part of the 82nd Name-list of variable stars. The first part was published in the Information Bulletin on Variable Stars (IBVS; Kazarovets et al., 2019a). After the IBVS had been discontinued, the second part of the 82nd Name-list appeared in Peremennye Zvezdy/Variable Stars (Kazarovets et al., 2019b).

During the time elapsed since October 2019, we have prepared a large set of data on variable stars in globular clusters of our Galaxy. The volume of this material makes it necessary to publish it as a separate, 83rd Name-list of variable stars, to appear later this year.

2. THE THIRD PART OF THE NAME-LIST

This publication, Part III of the 82nd Name-List of Variable Stars, contains information on 1043 stars newly named in the system of the General Catalogue of Variable Stars (GCVS; Samus et al., 2017), eight of them being extraordinary namings for recent Novae, provided either upon request from the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (CBAT) or by our initiative.

Like in the first two parts of the current 82nd Name-List, we separate the catalogue of newly designated variables (it will be presented at the GCVS web site) from the Name-list. Table 1 of the current Name-List contains the new GCVS names, equatorial coordinates (rounded to an accuracy sufficient for identification), and variability types for each of the 1043 stars included into the Name-list. The order of stars in Table 1 corresponds to the order of stars in the GCVS. Other data will be presented at http://www.sai.msu.su/gcvs/gcvs/nl82 and in the tables of the GCVS proper (http://www.sai.msu.su/gcvs/gcvs/index.htm), where we will additionally give variability ranges, light elements, spectral types, identifications with astronomical catalogues, detailed remarks, bibliographic references for the newly named variable stars (the first reference in the current part III of the Name-list, that to the photometric study, is to unpublished studies of the GCVS authors in almost 63% of all cases; we are planning a special publication of these data), accurate coordinates and proper motions (with references to corresponding positional catalogs or sources in the literature). Like in the first two parts, the majority of variable stars in the third part of the 82nd Name-List are included into it with coordinates from the Gaia DR2 (Gaia Collaboration, 2018).

In several cases, we were able to identify which component in a close pair varies using remote observations with telescope of the Caucasus Mountain Observatory of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute (SAI). Our requests for such observations were promptly fulfilled by Dr. N.P. Ikonnikova (SAI).

As mentioned above, eight recent Novae were given their GCVS names quickly after their discoveries. The list of the recent Novae that obtained their GCVS names soon after their announcement is presented in Table 2. Besides CBAT, we often receive urgent information on recent Novae from Patrick Schmeer (Germany).

The total number of named variable stars, not counting designated non-existing stars or stars subsequently identified with earlier-named variables, is now 55859.
