Starting date July 7, 2013 or according to agreement.
The activities within our division encompass curiosity-driven research into fundamental atomic and molecular physics as well as more application-driven research, connected to functional materials, biomolecules, energy and environment. Specific examples include ultrafast atomic and molecular dynamics, atmospheric science, biomolecular structures, magnetic materials, catalytically active surfaces and dye-sensitized solar cells. We operate in the forefronts of all these areas.
Central for the research is the use of advanced x-ray based methods to characterize the systems. The x-ray sources are pulsed lasers in the home lab and large-scale facilities for synchrotron radiation and free electron laser research located all over the world.
You have above all a genuine interest in research within one or more of the research areas comprised in our division. You have an undergraduate education profiled towards molecular and condensed matter physics (or equivalent) and/or x-ray based methodologies, on an MSc-level. However, also people whom have not yet received their MSc degree (or equivalent) are eligible.
The position as a PhD student is limited to four years of full-time studies, five years if departmental work is included. The main activities will be research studies. Other duties at the department related to teaching and administration may be included in the position (maximum 20%).
Further information regarding the research education can be found at the home page of the departmenthttp://www.physics.uu.se and on the home page of the faculty of science and technology http://www.teknat.uu.se.
Uppsala University is aiming for a more even gender distribution and women are particularly encouraged to apply for these positions.
The application should contain CV, proof of the MSc-degree (or equivalent) and an expression of interest in which it is stated which of the research areas above that you would prefer to work in.
