SD4L - ScramDisk for Linux 2.0
SD4L is a suite of Linux tools including a graphical user interface which allow the creation of, and access to ScramDisk as well as TrueCrypt encrypted container files. In particular, SD4L provides a Linux driver which enables mounting of containers.
Notes: Scramdisk for Linux is an on-the-fly encryption system which hides complete file systems within encrypted regular files or devices called containers. If configured accordingly it is container-compatible with Scramdisk for Windows developed by Shaun Hollingworth. It also handles TrueCrypt containers. Version 2.0-0 also handles partitioned containers and creates and uses swap space in a container.
This version is available for CentOS, Debian, Fedora, Mandriva, SuSE and Ubuntu distributions. It comprises a kernel driver scramdisk.ko (scramdisk.o for systems with kernel 2.4.x), the graphical user interface scramdisk and five small utilities sdcreate, sdchange, sdmount, sdreformat and sdumount. The additional program sdhelper is for internal use by the kernel driver only. After a container has been mounted any data could be read from or written to the file system inside the container transparently with help of the driver scramdiks.ko. By unmounting the container the file system becomes inaccessible again. This can be done by the Mount and Unmount buttons of the graphical user interface or by sdmount and sdumount.
The kernel version is part of the filename of binary packages and must match the kernel version of the system it is installed on. The architecture i386 or x86_64 in the filename should match the architecture of the distribution on which it is installed.
Changes: * A new option to use default mount points/media/scramdisk* has been added. These directories are created on mounting and removed on unmounting.
* ScramDisk now supports the use of whole containers or partitions within containers as swap space.
* ScramDisk now supports partitions within containers.
* The formats of TrueCrypt 5 and 6 containers are now supported (Tracker 2043856). This includes support for the system encryption and for the backup headers of TrueCrypt 6.
* The XTS encryption mode has been added which was needed for the support of TrueCrypt 5 containers (Tracker 1927950).
* The new digest SHA-512 has been added which was needed for the support of TrueCrypt 5 containers (Tracker 1927950).
* Support for chkconfig initscript management has been added (Tracker 1928829).
