PhD Scholarship in Inorganic Chemical Biology
A PhD position is currently available in the Inorganic Chemical Biology research group of
Dr. Gilles Gasser at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Zurich (Switzerland)
from the 1st of April 2010.
Project
This project aims to give a new, powerful tool in the emerging area of inorganic chemical biology
by using metal complexes to help with understanding/identifying and/or influencing biological
events/processes. More specifically, the in vitro release of specific metal complexes of
biological/medicinal relevance from their metal-containing bioconjugates will be investigated.
This project has numerous potential applications, notably within the pharmaceutical industry.
Your Profile
The successful candidate has obtained a university degree (MSc/Diploma) in Chemistry,
Biochemistry or related field. He/she is expected to be highly motivated to work on an ambitious,
cross-disciplinary research project involving organic chemists, inorganic chemists, biochemists
and biophysical chemists.
Selected Criteria
1) Enthusiasm for research
2) Ability to work independently.
3) Willingness to learn new techniques.
4) A solid background in organic or/and inorganic chemistry.
5) Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
Desirable Criteria
1) Experience in peptide synthesis.
2) Experience in working with cells.
3) Knowledge of German
The position is available from April the 1st 2010 or soon thereafter. The salary is according to
the Swiss National Science Foundation scale for PhD students (CHF 40'200 per annum with
a CHF 3'000 increase per year thereafter).
