Vershinina urban sociology, urbanization, metropolis, postmetropolis, Los Angeles school The article extracts and conceptualizes the key issues and clearly recognizes the methodological approaches of contemporary urban sociology. The article also provides an overview of the formation and development of concepts of modern urban studies. It is concluded that the transformations of urban discourse are correlated with rapid social change.
