The article conceptualizes the key issues and methodological approaches of contemporary urban sociology, given its tradition and lineage. The evolution of urban sociology itself is analyzed, from the pioneering study of the city through to the modern form of the science. Periodization of urban sociology is proposed on the basis of the transformation of the subject field, and the development of methodological approaches. Consequently, we recognized four stages of urban sociology along with their respective characteristics. This article focuses on the fourth and last stage associated with the object field and the theoretical approaches of the Los Angeles school.
