The article is devoted to the problems of war philosophy as a social phenomenon and the patterns of military conception development since ancient times. The author considers war as a naturally historical and developing phenomenon and marks out immature and mature war forms. These forms are based correspondingly on the use of naturally originated and produced means of destruction. The author proceeds from the conditionality of military conception development by military science development. In the issue it is examined the progressive development of military conception, the pre scientific and scientific stages are distinguished, and also it is given the social and philosophical description of the concepts of leading military thinkers: Sun Tsu, Vegetius, K. Clausewitz, F. Engels, H. DelbrЭck, B. Liddell Hart, E.I. Razin and others.
