Dear colleagues!
We invite you to take part in the II international symposium 'Invasion of alien species in Holarctic - 'Borok -2' which is held in Borok, Yaroslavl province, Russia, from September 27th to October 1st, 2005.
The first Symposium on invasive species was held in Borok at I.D. Papanin Institute of Biology of Inland Waters in August from 27th to 31st, 2001. It attracted attention of a great number of specialists both from Russia and foreign countries. Nearly 200 scientists participated in the symposium 'Borok-1' as it is called in the scientific circles. There have been a lot of appeals made in the last years to organize 'Borok-2' especially after the proceedings of the symposium (2003) were issued.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
Topic areas include:
- Theoretical aspects of biological invasion studies
- Invasive corridors and vectors of biological invasions in Holarctic, monitoring of invasive process
- Influence of the invaders on the aboriginal species and communities
- Genetics and evolution consequences of invasion of the alien species
- Invasion of transgenic forms in native ecosystems
- Information systems for monitoring of invasive process
- Mathematical modeling of the processes related to alien species invasion
- Risk assessment and prediction of alien species invasion
We are also planning to organize 'Round tables' in the framework of symposium program
- Development of control methods and management of bioinvasion processes
- International and interregional consolidation of efforts in investigation of bioinvasion processes
General Information
Those who wish to take part in the symposium must apply for their participation by filling in the registration form enclosed. The Deadline is January 1st. The organizing committee claims the choice of the reports for their representation in the symposium. The reports in short versions will have been published before the symposium starts working.
Plenum reports - 25 min.
Section reports - 15 min.
Short reports at 'Round Tables' - 15 min.
Poster presentation
Language in the symposium:
English (priority) and Russian
The second information letter with confirmation of your participation, rules of your report publication and information about registration and accommodation terms, and about possible tours will be sent within January 2005. The preliminary date for report presentation is May 1st, 2005.
