Supernova 2006ov in M61

This page is devoted to information on Supernova 2006ov in NGC 4321 = (M61).   Basic information on this SN, including the last reported brightness, on this Supernova can be found on the main page.  Information on the original web pages for many of these images can be found on the updates and links web pages.

sn06ov_i.jpg Discovered by Koichi Itagaki (Japan).   Note: The offsets as posted in CBET 756 are not correct, and have been corrected on the main page.   This is a type II found a few weeks after the event.   Note that this galaxy just emerged from solar conjunction.   M61 is one of our more prolific galaxies when it comes to supernovae.   This will be the fifth one observed in the 100+ years we have been looking.   The last one was 1999gn.   We have a DSS Photometry reference image made by Odd Trondal.  Icon generated from the discovery image.   This supernova is in the Constellation Virgo.
