Supernova 2003hy in IC 5145
This page is devoted to information on Supernova 2003hy in IC 5145.   Basic information on this SN, including the last reported brightness, on this Supernova can be found on the main page.  Information on the original web pages for many of these images can be found on the updates and links web pages.
Discovered almost at the same time by the UK amateurs
Tom Boles and
Mark Armstrong.
This one is an oddball.
If you take a look at the spectrum, you will see almost no spikes.
Thus there is some discussion if this is a supernova at all.
It is far too bright to be an Eta Carini like outburst or a nova,
so what is it?
We have a DSS Photometry reference image made by Odd Trondal.
Icon generated from Tom Boles discovery image.
This supernova is in the
Constellation Capracornus.
