Address of the RRU's President, Academician V.A. Sadovnichiy

on occasion of the Day of Knowledge



Dear colleagues!

Today we start the new academic year and celebrate the Day of
Knowledge. We celebrate it every year, and we base it on the general
traditions of our community and basics of every university. Every year we
try to bring new elements into the festivity.

The significance of innovations to implement this year is great.
These are the creation of federal and national research universities,
optimization of the higher education establishments' network and changes
in systems' substance - third generation standards introduction,
transition to two-level education, renewal of admittance system. These and
other innovations are to promote State-formulated tasks of the quality
breakthrough in the higher education.

I believe that today every member of our community can see and re-
conceive his university's role in socio-economical processes of country's
development. Still it is important in this process not to miss all the
features of Russian education - one of the best in the world.

Preserve and reform simultaneously is the more complicated task
than destroy and re-construct. We can solve the task joining our efforts
and coordinating our actions within our Union.

Directing our universities, passing knowledge to people, we mustn't
study ourselves in the name of our common future - future of the Higher
education in Russia.
