Yale Richmond is a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer who worked for more than twenty-five years on U.S.-Soviet exchanges in culture, education, science, and technology. He is the author of U.S.-Soviet Cultural Exchanges, 1958-1986: Who Wins? (Boulder, Colorado: Westview Press, 1987), a history of the exchanges. He has also written From Nyet to Da: Understanding the Russians (Yarmouth, Maine: Intercultural Press, 1996), a guide for Americans visiting Russia for the first time. From 1967-1969 he served as Counselor for Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, and during the 1970s as director of the Office of Soviet and East European Exchanges in the State Department's Bureau of Cultural and Educational Exchanges. He is currently doing research for a book on the results of 30 years of U.S.-Soviet cultural exchanges.
