Научные интересы: The ultrahigh vacuum plant (base pressure is order 10-8 Pa) for surface investigation by LEED and STM methods have been designed. Test measurements by STM/STS and LEED methods have been performed.
New dimensional quantization effects (DQE) in the vicinity of artificially produced clusters on semiconductor surface and near nanodefects on HOPG surface were observed by means of STM/STS. It was shown than the interaction between neighbouring defects can lead to DQ level splitting. The effects have local character and differ from 'zero anomalies' often observed in tunnel junctions.
Light-induced conformational transformation of the naphthacenequinone (NQ) molecules is observed by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. Additional sub-band of empty electronic states has been found for NQ molecules in A form and not found in B form. The conformational transformation is connected with the transfer of the phenoxy group from one oxygen to another.
Local low temperature tunnelling spectroscopy was performed on the in vicinity of artificially produced nanodefects on HOPG surface. It was shown that shape of tunnelling spectra can be explained taking into account finite relaxation time of unequilibrium electrons and presence of localised states of tip. We ascribe different results of STM investigations at low temperature to prevailing role of charge effects at low temperature. This statement is surprisingly consistent with the idea that superstructures on HOPG surface are analogous to Friedel oscillations.
The STM for surface investigations in controllable gas environment was used to study hydrogen saturated palladium surface. A comparative analysis was made of the surface of a palladium sample which was subjected heat treatment in atmospheres of oxygen and hydrogen and the surface of untreated palladium. It was show that after some treatment the atomic resolution on -Pd surface can be obtained.
