SCI Hardware installation Guide
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This guide shows you how to insert the SCI boards into
your nodes and connect the cables.

We recommend you to do this before installing the Scali Software
Platform (SSP).

We generally support two different topologies depending on the
number of nodes to connect:

- 2-8 : single ring topology
- 4-256 : 2D mesh topology

The two topologies are described separately below.
Please look in your kit description sheet or package list
which topology you have ordered.

Ring installation
-----------------
Please check that all 4 jumpers (in the one corner of the board) are mounted.
Install the boards into the node PCI bus.
Connect every second node to avoid long cables (8 node example):
(The numbers below represent the physical node position.
The "arrows" represents the SCI cable going from the OUT connector on the
first node to the IN connector on the second)
NOTE: Always connect from OUT to IN (see label above connectors on SCI board))

Y ring (in a single ring configuration we look at )
1->3 3->5 5->7 7->8

and then wrap back again:
8->6 6->4 4->2 2->1

second node.
This completes the ring.

NOTE: The leds will be red until the software is loaded.

2D Mesh installation
--------------------
Please check that all 4 jumpers (in the one corner of the board) are mounted.
Add mezzanine board by mounting it onto the main SCI board.
The connectors should be aligned in the back.
Install the boards into the node PCI bus.
Connect SCI mainboard in Y (vertical) direction
Connect SCI mezzanine in X (horizontal) direction
Connect every second node to avoid long cables (4x4 node example):
(The numbers below represents the physical node position, the first number
in the tuplet the X position and the second number the Y position.
The "arrows" represents the SCI cable going from the OUT connector on
the first node to the IN connector on the second node.
NOTE: Always connect from OUT to IN (see label above connectors on SCI board))

Y direction:
11->13 13->14

and then wrap back again:
14->12 12->11

This completes one Y ring.
Repeat pattern by replacing first digit with 2,3 and 4.

X direction:
11->31 31->41

and then wrap back again:
41->21 21->11

This completes one X ring.
Repeat pattern by replacing last digit with 2,3 and 4.

NOTE: The leds will be red until the software is loaded
