Molecular Physiology ? an interdisciplinary course of lectures ? started on 19 October, 2009. The lectures were delivered on Mondays, 5 p.m., 01 lecture hall, the Main Building of MSU. The head of the course is Professor M. Ostrovsky, Full Member of RAS, Head of the Chair of Molecular Physiology, Head of the Laboratory of Emanuel Institute of Biochemical Physics, RAS, President of Pavlov Physiology Society.
Syllabus and lecture schedule.
These lectures introduce students to a novel field of fundamental knowledge about the functioning of complex biological systems. This knowledge may lead to a much smarter medicine and new, unpredictable (nano)technology and, which is the most important, to another curve in the endless spiral of knowledge of the essence of life.
The lectures specifically cover latest achievements in molecular mechanisms of sensory reception, mechanisms of information transfer within and between cells, the integrative function of neurons, molecular and genetic mechanisms of memory, molecular mechanisms of cardiac function, molecular physiology of immune system, etc.
The lectures are given by leading Russian scientists who are Professors, Full and Corresponding Members of RAS and RAMS. The lectures are open to the general public. The course is compulsory for students of Group NB1 majoring in Nanobimaterials and Nanobiotechnology. For the rest, it is optional.
