Professor Nekipelov is truly a n outstanding scholar and administrator and also a totally honest person. I do r emember him presenting me with his book on Economic Institutions and their Functioning, and I can't ima gine that he took it from another source. Intriligator is Professor of Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) wher e he is also Professor of P olitical Science, Professor of Public Policy in the School of Public Affairs, and Co-Dir ector of the Jacob Marschak Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Mathematics in the Behavioral Sciences. He is also a Senior F ellow of the Milken Institute in Santa Monica. He has been a member of the UCLA faculty since 1963, teaching courses in economic theor y, econometrics, mathematical economics, inter national relations, and health economics, and he has received several distinguished teaching awards. He ha s served as the Director of the UCLA Burkle Center for Inter national Relations and its predecessor, the UCLA

Dr. Intriligator received his under graduate S.B. degr ee in Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; his M.A. degree at Yale University, wher e he was the recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship; and his Ph.D. in Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of T echnology wher e he worked with Robert M. Solow and Paul A. Samuelson both of whom wer e later awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics. Dr. Intriligator is the author of mor e than 200 journal articles and other publications in the areas of economic theory and mathematical economics, econometrics, healt h economics, refor m of the Russian economy, and strategy a nd arms control, his principal research fields. Dr. Intriligator is Vice Chair and a member of the Board of Dir ectors of Economists for Peace and S ecurity (EPS) and was President of the P eace Science Societ y (Inter national) in 1993. He edits the Elsevier S eries, "Handbooks in Economics" wit h Stanford Nobel Laureate Kenneth Arrow, and he serves on the Editorial Boards of Economic Dir ections, Defence a nd P eace Economics, and Conflict Management and P eace Science.
