В четверг, 16 декабря 2004 года, в 15:40 в конференц-зале НМУ по адресу Б. Власьевский, 11, состоится очередное заседание математического семинара Глобус. Тема доклада: Equivalence relations, higher rank lattices and rigidity, лектор – Alex Furman (U. Of Chicago).

We shall discuss recent rigidity results on measurable orbit structures of actions of curtain non-amenable groups such as SL(n,Z), n>2. These results, belonging to Ergodic Theory and Lie groups, have applications to classification problems in logic and to operator algebras. The proofs involve superrigidity (Margulis, Zimmer), Ratner’s theorem and an analogy to quasi-isometries suggested by Gromov.
