Fall semester 2012 State Regulation of the Economy The course presents the theoretical framework and concepts of state regulation of the economy; systems of state authorities; and financial, industrial, social, external economic and regional state policies. Regional Economies The course investigates issues of regional economic development, presents international experiences in regional policy and discusses regional economic development in Russia. Practice of Business The course provides students with practical working experience in companies operating in various areas of business, including finance, communications, consultancies, natural resource management, high-tech and others. Students have the opportunity to act as business team members and to witness daily operations of a company. International Economies This course presents theory and practice of international trade and international dynamic of production factors Strategic Management The course presents systems of managerial processes and decision making that ensure the efficient, long-term development of organizations in changing environments Macroeconomic Issues and Challenges in Russia This course is devoted to the discussion of specific features of current macroeconomic situation in Russia as well as macroeconomic policy issues. Cross-Cultural Management This course aims to help the students to develop an awareness of the concept of culture and its influence on management practices and organizational functioning, and to develop cultural sensitivity as an ability to understand and analyze the beh avior of people in the cross-cultural context. Human Resources Management The course is aimed at creating an overall understanding of human resources (HR) management system. Upon completion students will understand basic concepts and methods of HR management and will gain practical skills in the field.


Key topics: main theories and concepts of human resources management, personnel planning, HR policies, personnel selection and hiring, personnel development, career management. Managerial Economics The topics cover fundamentals of individual motivations to make a choice (a choice under certainty, a choice under uncertainty and an inter-temporal choice) and the concept of economic equilibrium as a benchmark. Introduction of money allows concentrating on macroeconomic mechanisms. The teaching methods use intuitive and graphical analysis to facilitate students the mastering economic mechanisms and skills to apply them. The course includes writing an industry-specific group report. International Business Studying the implications current IB theories for Strategy, providing detailed coverage of a number of highly international company case studies, discussing question of when companies need more aggressive international strategies; the issue of global vs regional vs national strategies; and at how these issues differ for a range of sectors.

Human resources management (international aspects) The course will provide a basic introduction to the organization of international human resources in business. Beside application of contemporary theory and research in international management praxis some major paradigms and approaches will be introduced. The principal seminar focus is on the field of human resource management at the organizational level. Special issues relating to intercultural interactions in international environment and working in multicultural context will be analysed and discussed. We also well review organizational practices such as recruitment, selection, compensation methods and performance evaluation.

Strategic Response The scope of this course combines original strategic thinking, like experience curve and BCG matrix with latest frontiers in under-standing world changing megatrends, the internet advantage, strategy and intellectual property and covers scenario planning and success factors in strategic planning. This course is intended to enable participants to understand key elements of successful business strategies, apply them in broad company situations and prepare for main changes of the environment companies are working in. The course goals will be reached by each session consisting of pre-readings, intensive classroom discussions and short case studies.


Comparative analysis of foreign management systems In terms of this course students are supposed to discuss the measures for management efficiency improvement at large Russian companies with a focus on labour organization improvement. They also will re-think and analyze the process of national government formation and history of Industrial Revolution and discuss the up-to-date tendencies and future perspectives in the field of governance and industrial production.

International Service Innovations The course focuses on service innovations in a global environment. This involves questions of how to design innovations for different cultures and how to adapt them to meet the requirements of national cultures. Issues, such as, how to organize innovation in a multinational firms and how to co-create service innovations with customers will be discussed as well as questions like how to enter a foreign market and whether late-comer firms are subject to competitive disadvantages. The course is intended to provide you with detailed, in-depth knowledge of service innovations and multinational service companies. Financial Markets Instruments Application, Pricing and Calculations The course is dedicated to financial markets instruments pricing, calculations and to practical application of financial markets and investment instruments to the activity of the companies, investing in financial assets; staff/managers of financial intermediaries, such as banks, investment companies, insurance companies and pension funds; securities issuers; private investors; capital market analysts; teachers and coaches of financial markets trading, infrastructure, investment, financial markets calculations etc.; bank's treasuries; exporters/importers, who carry currency (FX) risk and exported/imported goods/services price change risk and who need to hedge it; companies and banks, borrowing and/or lending at floating rates needed to be hedged; financial intermediaries (banks, investment companies, insurance companies and pension funds), who need to hedge their own or client's assets, such as securities or currency. The Objective of course is to learn how financial instruments are practically applied how to calculate them and how to calculate their effective yield. Introduction to Private Equity The course gives an understanding of how private equity model works and how to use it to generate above average returns on invested capital.
