On November 3, 2015 the Faculty of Journalism, MSU, the National Research University Higher School of Economics and the National Association of Mass Media Researchers organized the international conference “Russia in 1917 perceived by modern youth: media discourse”. The event was hosted by the Faculty of Journalism.
Scholars from Russia and other countries presented their researches uncovering the historical myths connected with the events of 1917. Focus groups, opinion polls and linguistic studies proved that the concept of the revolution is oftentimes supported not only by historical facts but by emotional images too.
The Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Professor Elena Vartanova noted the value of the event and emphasized that the perception of the history is one of the bases of national identity. Professor of the National Research University Higher School of Economics Joseph Dzyaloshinsky expressed the hope that the event would repeat in 2017 when the centenary of the revolution will attract the public attention.
