On October, 2014 – February 2015 the students of the Faculty of Journalism, MSU were studying atљHumboldt University of Berlin. Autumnal-Winter term consisted of obligatory and optional courses and workshops, also the program included a language school. More than that, the learners had a chance to talk to the representatives of the leading German media. The free time of students was full of cultural events including theatre, museum and excursion visiting.
The collaboration with Humboldt University of Berlin takes place according to interuniversity agreement. Representatives of German party have repeatedly participated in educational programs organized by the Faculty of Journalism and the lecturers of the partner university are the regular guests of the house on the Mokhovaya street.љ
Students’ impressions
The course continued during one semester, therefore we had an opportunity to participate in the studying process. It was very interesting, because there is absolutely another approach to studying of media in Germany. We had free classes of German language (4 hours per week) and regular meetings with the research supervisor of course ? Professor Wolfgang Muhl-Benninghaus
Course continued for nearly half a year, so we could feel the atmosphere of Germany during the well-known holidays: 25th anniversary of Berlin wall falling, Halloween, Christmas, New Year. Besides there was enough time both to learn, and to travel across Germany.

My internship at Humboldt University Berlin was a cornucopia of fascinating seminars, strong emotions, unforgettable meetings and astonishing cultural events. Firstly, I attended there more than 5 different courses in English and German including Digitalization, History of Nazi media, Films and media, Introduction to media studies and so on. I prepared 4 presentations, did semiotic analyses, wrote various essays and created a short documentary. In the libraries of Humboldt University I found excellent books about German literature for my diploma.
Secondly, I developed my English and German skills intensively with the help of 6 language courses. As a result, I have passed TOEFL and TestDAF exams.
Thirdly, I visited Dresden, Hamburg, Potsdam and Poland. I was captivated by 10 brilliant museums and impressive galleries (exhibitions devoted to Dali, Picasso, Pasolini and so on), several magnificent castles, 4 gorgeous theatrical performances and the Berlin International Film Festival.
Finally, I communicated a lot with amazing people from about 50 countries, had my own German mentor and tandem-partners.
Thanks a lot to all organizers of this internship for this valuable experience and opportunity to broaden our mind, to strengthen our job perspectives and to understand better other cultures and traditions.

The traineeship at one of Germany?s oldest universities provided an opportunity to discover the avant-garde European educational system, new methodology in teaching and unfamiliar ways of studying.
Berlin Media School was developed at Humboldt University under supervision of the famous media theorist Friedrich Kittler. It understands media as physical or artificial techniques of communication. That is why the main Master's degree subjects included media archaeology, media and materiality, technical object as historical object. Different sciences - physics, philosophy and history of media created new whole picture of the world through the prism of technological determinism.
In addition, the Department of Media Studies researches digital media economy and audio branding; offers the basics of video editing and computer programming.
At first, seminars and lectures seemed unusual, but professors and new topics enthralled me, creating interest and desire to take part in studying, to spend most of the time in the gorgeous university library, to take part in the conferences and visit scientific events.
This academic term inspired us not only to explore the capital of Germany, but also to travel around the country and to visit several European cities. It was certainly impossible to skip lots of cultural events that Berlin offers regularly: extraordinary performances, scandalous Wagner?s operas, Berlinale Film Festival and national celebrations.
This traineeship, full of events, meetings and discoveries was a great success!
