On October 17-18, 2014 the Faculty of Journalism of Lomonosov Moscow State University hosted The 6th International Media Readings in Moscow “Mass Media and Communication-2014”. The overarching theme of the conference was ?Creative Industries in the Reindustrializing World: Media Practices of the West and the East?.
The conference began with a public talk of Professor Terry Flew (Queensland University of Technology, Australia) on a topic ?Media Economics: New Insights from Institutional and Evolutionary Perspectives?. In his speech Professor Flew mentioned that an appeal only to neoclassical theory and politico-economical approach, which dominate in media economics, doesn’t make it possible to cover and to explain the whole range of problems studied by this discipline. From his point of view, it?s necessary to use also other economic theories, for example, institutional and evolutionary ones, which will help to better understand ?new realities? of modern media economics. The lecture was based on the book by T. Flew, S. Cunningham and A. Swift, ?Media Economics?, which is to be published in the publishing house Palgrave in spring, 2015. The speech of Terry Flew was organized as a pre-conference of Moscow Readings event. For the first time this format was approved in 2014, when the day before official opening of the conference a public talk of Daniel C. Hallin (University of California, San Diego, USA) and Professor Paolo Mancini (University of Perugia, Italy) was held.
