The conference began with a public talk of Professor Terry Flew (Queensland University of Technology, Australia) on a topic ?Media Economics: New Insights from Institutional and Evolutionary Perspectives?. In his speech Professor Flew mentioned that an appeal only to neoclassical theory and politico-economical approach, which dominate in media economics, doesn’t make it possible to cover and to explain the whole range of problems studied by this discipline. From his point of view, it?s necessary to use also other economic theories, for example, institutional and evolutionary ones, which will help to better understand ?new realities? of modern media economics. The lecture was based on the book by T. Flew, S. Cunningham and A. Swift, ?Media Economics?, which is to be published in the publishing house Palgrave in spring, 2015. The speech of Terry Flew was organized as a pre-conference of Moscow Readings event. For the first time this format was approved in 2014, when the day before official opening of the conference a public talk of Daniel C. Hallin (University of California, San Diego, USA) and Professor Paolo Mancini (University of Perugia, Italy) was held.

Within Moscow Readings-2014 plenary and thematic sessions were held, as well as round table discussions. Keynote speakers (Professors Terry Flew, Francois Heinderyckx, Bjorn von Rimscha, Hannu Nieminen, Josef Trappel, Eli Noam, Pal Tamas and Elena Vartanova, the dean of the Faculty of Journalism of Lomonosov Moscow State University) shared the results of their unique research projects with the participants of the conference, took part in the discussion on the role and the place of creative industries in the modern world, discussed specificity of influence of digital technologies on the transformation of cultural industries in different countries.

Plenary sessions were followed by sessions and round table meetings. Speeches of Russian and foreign researchers within the round table ?Dynamics of Russian Media System in the Context of BRICS Development? aroused high interest of the audience, as well as the meeting devoted to the discussion of issues of education and culture in German-speaking countries. For the first time at the conference there were special round tables for young researchers organized, where the participants could not only present their research papers, but also get advice from leading foreign and Russian scientists.

Researchers from different Russian cities (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Cherepovets, Chelyabinsk, etc.) took part in the conference, as well as researchers from more than 15 countries of the world (Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, the USA, Australia, China, Indonesia, etc.).

Closing the conference, the dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Professor Elena Vartanova mentioned the necessity of such international events for consolidation of contacts between researchers from different countries of the world, as well as for integration of representatives of the Russian school of journalism into the global academic space.
