To all Theoretical Physics Students, graduating from Physics Department in 2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new phenomenology-oriented QCD research group is looking for prospective PhD students. The applicants must have their Specialist/Master degree already completed and excellent academic achievements shown during studies. Experience in QCD and effective field theories is very welcome. Recommendations from academic advisors and faculty members are not necessary at this stage of process, but will be required in case the applicant is to be finally hired.
A PhD student position in theoretical physics at LMU-Munich is available for the next two years within a DFG-financed project. The project title is "QCD vacuum in intensive electromagnetic fields". The key topics include, but are not limited to, QCD/QED interaction in external fields, QCD corrections to Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian, phase transitions, vacuum "melting" in strong laser fields, non-stability of vacuum transparency property for Volkov solutions, enhancement of vacuum instability in strong fields by presence of gluonic condensate.
There are no teaching duties associated with this position, to is funded as a purely research. The salary will conform, according to the German law, to the experience, age and social status of the employee. Upper limit of yearly brutto income may be very roughly estimated as 25000 euro.
