Use your education: 2,100 USD to work at home for technology consultancy

A technology consultancy based in Cambridge, UK, is looking for outsourcing the review of patent related information to Russia. We are looking for people with professional background in physics, material science, bio-chemistry, electrical engineering and telecommunication.

A profile of the person suitable for this job will vary from:

* A student of the past two years in either MIPT or MSU, but will require proficiency in English as well as records of participating in all-Russian olympiads during school years

* A PhD student of the MIPT or MSU, having proficiency in English

* A scientist working in the academic system, having proficiency in English

Access to broadband is required in order to download significant (up to 100Mb) data files. Main activity is carried out offline.

The workload is based on projects sold to commercial clients and is highly irregular. The current project will be running through April with some activities also scheduled for the May holidays. People involved in the projects should be able to commit at least 25 hours per week for work. Workload in excess of 40 hours per week is not uncommon.

The work is paid using an hourly rate of 8 USD during the first week and 12 USD thereafter. This is equivalent to 2100 USD per month and can be more, if the person is ready to work in excess of 40 hours per week.

The efficiency of different people varies enormously (more than tenfold) depending on the level of proficiency in English, their natural ability to classify information under time pressure, and the ability to think independently. To manage such variability between people, projects are staffed with redundancy in mind and it is not uncommon to terminate the contract if the person is either unable to ramp up the efficiency of the work through the first weeks of the project, is unable to commit enough time to the project work, or if the results of his work are unable to pass through the quality assessment procedure.

An initial interview with the person is carried out by the Russian speaking project manager of the British consultancy. The Russian person based in Cambridge is an alumni of the Faculty of General and Applied Physics, MIPT.

If both parties agree to proceed further, a contract is placed between the person and technology consultancy. The link to the data files, set of instructions and examples of the reviewer's work outcome is then provided and coaching of the person is organized using help from the peer group already involved with the project in Moscow.

Further uptake of the applicants is terminated as soon as enough overcapacity is built in the project.
