The stages of development are set forth in a historical progression including the most important achievements of the Institute of Organic Chemistry (IOC) in the field of catalysis, first of all, organic catalysis the founder of which in the USSR was N.D. Zelinsky who established the scientific school that determined in succeeding years the contribution of his disciples, world-famous scientists, in the fundamental science on catalysts, creation of new catalytic processes and industria! catalysts. Examples of application of the IOC sci. entific developments in the production are given. Creation of catalysts in the Institute was based on a broad application of physicalchemical methods and scientific approaches to the catalyst technology. Efficient cooperation of the scientists of IOC with specialists of applied catalysis and industry providing successful application of the results scientific investigations in the production process is shown Many of these .traditions remain till now: The extent of t~e journal.gives just ~ little portion ~f the r~sults and achievements of IOC in the field of catalYSIS as an example. A detaIled statement will be published later In the Catalytic Bulletin.
