1. Winner of numerous state awards and the international Golden Hypocrite Prize, chief cardiac surgeon of the Ministry of Health, Leo Bokeria is considered to be one of the best world's cardiac surgeons, a famous scholar and organizer of medical science. His name is associated with the promotion of some new directions in clinical medicine, and the development and implementation of advanced diagnostics and treatment techniques. 2. Academician Leo Bokeria has devoted his life to medicine. He seems to have been created to mend hearts and save lives, and he does it with a rare commitment, making no distinction between rich and poor, president and pauper. 3. Performing up to six operations a day, Leo Bokeria knows everything about having a healthy heart. He has to his credit at least ten operations that he was the first to perform in Russia. For example, Leo Bokeria conducted a unique operation by removing a shrapnel from the heart of a boy, one of the victims of the tragedy in Beslan. 4. Among Bokeria's innumerable contributions to science the one he is best-known for is the method of hyperbaric oxygenation, which allows surgeons to operate on virtually inoperable children by placing them in an altitude chamber. 5. The Bakulev Cardiovascular Center headed by Bokeria is the largest cardiac center in the world. Thousands of patients have been given a second life there, while professionals have obtained a unique medical experience and knowledge. 6. Bokeria conducts social and research activity. He is the founder of the country's largest cardiac schools, a talented teacher who has trained generations of physicians, surgeons, cardiologists and other specialists. In 2003 he was elected President of the All-Russian public organization "League of the Nation's Health". 7. Leo Bokeria is a true genius, and his skill and ingenuity in curing the seemingly incurable is nothing shy of a miracle. 8. The name Bokeria is associated with opening a new chapter in the national cardiac surgery. Leo Bokeria enjoys the highest prestige and has earned respect as a serious scholar and an excellent surgeon who has given life to thousands of patients, giving each of them part of his own heart.
