Vacancy: R&D Scientist, PhD (m/f)
Company: DOW Terneuzen, The Netherlands.
Department: Alternate Feedstock Research group within the Hydrocarbons R&D organization.
Reporting to/hierarchy: Mixed reporting lines to the local Alternate Feedstock Research Group Leader and the Senior Director Hydrocarbons R&D.
Function details: The candidate will be the right hand for the Alternate Feedstock Research Group Leader and be responsible for the scientific and technical leadership of the Alternate Feedstock Research Group within Dow's Hydrocarbons and Energy R&D organization. This group is chartered to discover and develop new, advantaged feedstock technology for Dow by implementing innovative catalysis and process technology.
Expectations for this role include:
Demonstrate and maintain expert knowledge in this scientific field.
Act as a subject matter expert and technical resource for the organization, in close cooperation with teams all over the world (mainly in USA).
Broaden the technological knowledge in the 'Centre of excellence for catalysis'.
Work effectively in a multi-functional environment to understand, communicate, coordinate and implement business technology objectives.
Lead research programs through the definition and implementation of a portfolio of Alternate Feedstock projects, in close cooperation with the Alternate Feedstock Research Group Leader.
Provide scientific and technical direction for projects.
Lead group and/or Core R&D researchers in the execution of individual projects.
Act as a mentor for group technical personnel.
Participate in hiring outstanding talent to build the group's expertise.
Utilise and promote Six Sigma project management tools.
Education and qualifications:
PhD in catalysis-related chemistry field (Organic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering).
Established track record (publications, patents, presentations) of scientific contributions to one of the above disciplines preferably focused in the area of selective hydrocarbon conversion.
At least 8-10 years relevant industrial/academic post-graduate experience is desired (including leading a group of at least 20 well experienced PhD's.).
Established network in the scientific field of catalysis.
Ability to provide technical leadership to (remote) research teams and groups.
Experience with leading complex research programs.
