The Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry and Molecular Imaging (LBCMI) at Swiss Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland has an opening at the PhD level (http://lcbim.epfl.ch).
Highly motivated individuals with background in synthetic organic chemistry and strong interest to use synthesis as a tool to solve problems of biological and medicinal significance are encouraged to apply.
Position: The position offers an opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment and to lead the projects that have potential to solve important problems in medicine. All the projects are heavily synthetic in nature and also involve close collaborations with other groups in the areas of metabolic biology, cancer biology and clinical research. Therefore, the position offers a unique opportunity to become an expert in the field of synthetic chemistry as well as to learn about biology of certain diseases and imaging techniques.
Starting date: flexible - February - July 2016
Requirements:
- The successful candidate should hold a master degree or equivalent in organic chemistry, chemical biology or other relevant discipline. Strong background and experience in organic synthesis is desirable, but not mandatory. Additional years of research experience are certainly an asset (example: 1-3 years of doctoral school). However, candidates who already received their official PhD titles are not eligible for this position.
- The candidate should be open and interested in learning new techniques in biology and molecular imaging. Previous experience in biological technics is an asset.
- Since most of the projects will involve collaborations with other research teams in the field of biology and medicine, the candidate should be willing to work in highly interdisciplinary environment.
- The candidate should be enthusiastic about working in the atmosphere of a young research team and to be able to pursue his/her project(s) independently.
- The candidate should be fluent in English. This is very important because the candidate would be required to take doctoral level classes and assist with teaching BS level courses.
