Interaction
of Individual Fibers Modified
by Surface Adsorption.
Abstract
The coeFFicients oF Friction m and adhesion Forces (contact strength) p
(under conditions oF shear and rupture accordingly) in the point contacts
between individual Fibers oF cellulose, viscose and acetylcellulose were
measured in the aqueous solutions oF cationic surFactants - cetyltrimethylammonium
bromide (CTAB) and tetrabuthylammonium iodide (TBAI) - and cationic
polyelectrolyte - polyethyleneimine (PEI). The molecular component oF Friction
Forces was analyzed, Free energy oF interaction U(mJ/m2) was evaluated For the Fibers oF
acetylcellulose. Comparison on these
data with the data oF z-potential and surFactant
adsorption measurements was carried out.
The character and degree oF change oF Fiber
interaction parameters under surFactant action, concentration region according
with extreme values parameters are associated with surFactant ability to act on
surFace charge oF Fibers and to provide surFace hydrophobization and
hydrophilization depending on adsorption value.
