Date/Place of birth: 13 November 1962, Moscow, Russia.

Married, daughter Darja (1984) and son Andrey (1986).

The senior researcher assistant of Department of Vertebrate Zoology, Faculty of Biology, Lomonosov Moscow State University (full-time); research assistant of Scientific Research Department, of Moscow Zoo (part-time). PhD on Zoology. The theme of PhD Thesis "Species-specific features of gird behaviour in captivity".

Education: From 1979 to 1984 - student of Biology Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University. From 1991 to 1994 - postgraduate student of Biology Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

General scientific tasks: Social behaviour; mammalian and bird bioacoustics; behavioural adaptation to captivity; welfare estimation in wild mammals in captivity.

Main research projects:

1984-1989 - Studying behaviour and stimulation of breeding in the Red-breasted goose (Rufibrenta ruficollis) in captivity;

1990-1996 - development of zoo management for rare and exotic species of rodents and insectivorous;

1991-2005 - Interspecies comparison of physical behaviour and acoustical communication in jirds (Gerbillidae) in captivity;

1995-1999 - studying behaviour and ecology of isolated Arctic fox (Alopex lagopus beringensis) population on Bering Island and studying behaviour and ecology of isolated Arctic fox (Alopex lagopus semenovi) population on Mednyi Island (Commandor Islands);

1995-till present - studying vocal communication and call structures of birds and mammals;

Current research focuses:

1. Studying individual variability of animal calls for monitoring of individuals by their voices in the wild, without capture and marking; studying stability of individual call features over years (dhole Cuon alpinus, spotted ground squirrel Spermophillus suslicus, red-breasted goose, cranes).

2. Bioacoustical sexing of bird species with lack of sexual dimorphism (whistling ducks and cranes).

3. Occurrence and functional significance of nonlinear phenomena in calls of birds and mammals.

4. Relations between call structures and emotional states of animals (dhole, domestic dog Canis familiaris, cheetah Acinonyx jubatus, Great gerbil Rhombomys opimus, Pallid gerbil Gerbillus perpallidus, Red fox Vulpes vulpes).

5. Relations between call structures and vocal tract anatomy (dhole, saiga Saiga tatarica).

Teaching work:

Since 2000 - participance in the work of lecture course 'Animal behaviour', seminar 'Actual problems of current zoology' and ecology-physiological practicum (studies on behaviour sampling methods) in Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Since 2003 - lecturer of special course 'Bioacoustics of higher vertebrates'.
