, , . , . - - - . The article examines the problem of the formation and development of urban agglomerations as centers of economic, political, social and cultural life of the modern world community. The author highlights issues of changing social and spatial structure of cities as the result of transnational and local processes of urban development and explores them in the context of the global challenges of our time. The need for co-development of urban centers and satellite towns within the agglomeration area is substantiated.
