Proceeding from the assumption that nation is the most stable and sustainable social community, the author analyses the role and significance of the national factor in the contemporary society. He reveals the essence of such terms as ethnonation, political nation, nationality, national interests, nationalism and investigates the character of the national selfgovernment in the process of realization of national interests.
