In article is used the results of sociological research to obtain the comparative estimation of taking part in philanthropic activity of social group at Moscow and Sankt Petersburg and to reveal the factors that is the causes of philanthropic activity: perception of philanthropic activity, level of being in the know and sources of it, notion about roles of state and public organizations, as well as efficiency and line of progress of philanthropic activity.
