A.P.Seyranian was born in Moscow,
and spent his childhood in Armenia.
In 1971 he graduated from the Moscow Physical-Technical Institute. In
1971-1973 he worked in the Central Aero-Hydrodynamic Institute of USSR as a
research engineer. In 1977 he got Ph.D. degree from the Academy
of Sciences of the USSR with the
thesis "Structural optimization under several constraints". In
1977-1991 A.P.Seyranian
was a Member of Scientific Staff at the Institute
of Problems in Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences
in Moscow. In
1988 he got D.Sc. degree with the thesis "Sensitivity analysis and
optimization for problems of stability and vibrations of elastic
systems" from the Academy of Sciences of the USSR
in Moscow. In
1988 in
the International Centre of Mechanical Sciences in Udine
(Italy)
he was a Lecturer of the course "Optimization under Stability and
Vibration Constraints". In 1991-1992 he visited Denmark as a Guest Professor and gave a
lecture course "Vibrations and Stability of Systems Depending on
Parameters" at the Technical University of Denmark
(Lyngby) and Aalborg
University. In
1993-1995 he gave the same course at Moscow Technical
University n.a.Bauman.
Since 1993 A.P.Seyranian
is a Leading Researcher and Professor of the Institute
of Mechanics, Moscow State
Lomonosov University.
In 1994 he was invited to give lectures and do research in China and was
nominated Honorary Advisor of National Laboratory for Industrial Equipment of
Dalian University of Technology. In 1995 A.P.Seyranian got a grant from NSF and
NATO to visit Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences of New
York University as well as University
of Michigan, Rice
University, University of Maryland
and other Universities of USA. In 1995 he was elected a Member of The New
York Academy of Sciences. In 1995
A.P.Seyranian was a Member of Organizing Committee of
the First World Congress of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization in Goslar (Germany).
In 1998 he was elected a Member of Editorial Board of the International
Journal "Theoretical and Applied Mechanics" published in Yugoslavia.
In 2001 A.P.Seyranian
was Coordinator and Lecturer of the course 'Stability of Structures. Modern
Problems and Unconventional Solutions', held in International Centre for
Mechanical Sciences in Udine (Italy), and Editor of the book 'Modern problems
of Structural Stability', 2002, Springer Wien. In 2002 he got the prize of
Elsevier Publishers for the best paper published in Journal of Applied
Mathematics and Mechanics in 2001.
In 2002 he was an Invited speaker of the First
Congress on Mechatronics held in Linz,
Austria. In
2003 he wrote a fundamental monograph on multi-parameter stability problems
(with A.A.Mailybaev) published by World Scientific,
Singapore. In
2003 he became an Invited Speaker and Chairman of the Session 'Stability and
Control Problems in Mechanics' at the conference 'Physics and Control 2003', Sankt-Petersburg. In
2003 A.P.Seyranian
became a member of Editorial Board of International Journal Structural and
Multidisciplinary Optimization. In 2004 he was a chairperson in International
Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in Warsaw
and invited speaker of World Congress of Computational Mechanics in Beijing. In 2005 A.P. Seyranian got a
grant from the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science to give lectures and
do research in Japan.
He visited and gave lectures in University
of Tsukuba, University
of Jamagata, Osaka
Prefecture University
and Ryukoku University. In 2005 he was an Invited
Plenary Speaker and Chairperson in the Conference on modern physics held in Istanbul (Turkey). In 2005 A.P.Seyranian was
invited to present a Plenary lecture in the Conference on nonconservative and
diisipative problems in mechanics organized in Novi Sad
(Serbia and Montenegro).
In 2005 he became Coordinator and Chairperson of the Invited Session
'Multiparameter Stability and Control Problems in Physics' at the Conference
'Physics and Control 2005',
Sankt-Petersburg. In 2005 A.P.Seyranian
was a Guest Professor of Rome
University 'La Sapienza'. He gave
seminars in Mathematical and Engineering Departments of 'La Sapienza' and delivered
lectures in University of Bologna and University of Salerno.
In 2005 he was a Chairperson in the Conference on nonlinear dynamics held in Lodz (Poland).
In 2006 A.P.Seyranian
was invited to the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
to give a course 'Bifurcations of Eigenvalues and Stability Problems in
Mechanics'. In 2006 A.P.Seyranian
gave a Plenary lecture 'Multiparameter Stability Theory with Mechanical
Applications' in the Polyakhov Readings organized by Sankt-Petersburg University.
In 2006 he was an invited speaker of the Conference on Applied Mathematics in
Plovdiv (Bulgaria)
and of the Jubilee Conference of Mathematical Institute in Belgrade
(Serbia).
In 2007 A.P.Seyranian
as a leader of Moscow group with the partners from Italy, France and Siberia
got approval of the INTAS project 'Advances of Stability Theory with
Mechanical Applications' supported by European Union. In frame of this
project in 2007 he visited Italy
and gave seminars at the University
of L'Aquila and Rome University
'La Sapienza'.
In 2007 as a member of Organizing Committee and Speaker A.P.Seyranian visited
Seoul (Korea) and took part in ISSMO
Congress. In 2007 A.P.Seyranian
participated in Lyapunov Congress (Sankt-Petersburg) and Chetayev Conference
(Irkutsk) as
an invited lecturer and chairman of the session. In 2007 A.P.Seyranian became
a member of Editorial board of the International Journal 'Mathematical
Methods in Engineering'. In July 2007 he was invited lecturer of the course
'Stability and Bifurcations of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems' organized in L'Aquila (Italy) by SICON and supported by
European Union. In September 2007
A.P.Seyranian organized a Mini-Symposium on stability
problems in PhysCon-2007 held in Potsdam (Germany). In
December 2007 A.P.Seyranian
gave a Plenary Lecture on modern stability problems in the 9th Conference on
Dynamical Systems - Theory and Applications in Lodz
(Poland).
In 2008 he was elected a Correspondent Member of Russian Academy of Natural
Sciences. In 2008 in
frame of the INTAS project he visited France
and Spain and presented
seminars in University of Lyon, Evry
University in Paris,
and Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Barcelona
(Spain).
In June 2008 A.P.Seyranian
was an Invited speaker and Chairman of the session in International
Conference on Stability, Control and Rigid Bodies Dynamics held in Donetsk (Ukraine).
In November 2008 he was elected a Member of Academy of Sciences of Armenia. In
2009 he became a member of Editorial board of the journal 'Mechanics' (Armenia). In
the same year A.P.Seyranian got Diploma for the paper presented at the Conference
dedicated to Chelomei's 95th Anniversary held in Bauman Moscow
State Technical
University. In 2010 he
was elected a Full Member of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. In 2010 A.P.Seyranian
published (with A.A.Mailybaev) a new book 'Multiparameter Stability Problems.
Theory and Applications in Mechanics', Fizmatlit, Moscow
in Russian and gave the modern stability courses in Brazil and China. In 2010 and 2012 he was
also a member of Organizing Committee and invited speaker of the
International conference 'Topical problems of continuum mechanics' held in Armenia. In 2011 A.P.Seyranian
participated in European Conference on Nonlinear Dynamics (ENOC 2011),
Rome, Italy. In 2012 he was invited speaker in the Conference
'Physics and Control - 2011'
held in Leon (Spain) and in 3d International Congress of Serbian Society of Mechanics, Vlasina Lake
(Serbia). In June-July 2012 A.P.Seyranian visited
International Research
Center for Mathematics and Mechanics
of Complex Systems (Cisterna di Latina, Italy) and carried out joint research
with Italian colleagues on stability of elastic systems. In 2012 he
participated in Euromech Solid Mechanics Conference organized in Graz (Austria).
In 2012 A.P.
Seyranian got International Tullio Levi-Civita Prize for academic excellence
and M.A.Lavrentiev Prize of Russian
Academy of Sciences for
outstanding achievements in mathematics and mechanics.
A.P.Seyranian is a reviewer of ASME Journal of Applied Mechanics,
American Mathematical Society, Proc. Royal Society (UK), Journal of Sound and
Vibration, European Journal of Mechanics, International Journal of Solids and
Structures, ZAMM, Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, Journal of
