The System of Flowering Plants: Synthesis of Classical and Molecular Approaches

Moscow South-West High School, 26 Bakinskih Komissarov str., 3, b. 5, Moscow, 117571, Russia e-mail: plantago@herba.msu.ru The proposed system of flowering plants (Angiospermae) is based on synthesis of cladistic researches from different authors, morphological data and "traditional" systematics as well. Classis Angiospermae is divided for 4 subclassis: Magloliidae, Liliidae, Rosidae and Asteridae. Thus, monocots belong to subclassis Liliidae, and so-called "dicots" to three other subclasses. In all, there are 35 orders and 328 families of flowering plants in this system.
