Entrance requirements

Entrance requirements
Applicants submit the following documents to the admission committee within the period from June, 20 through July, 07 2010:

  1. personal statement addressed to the rector of MSU, containing the post-graduate course title and masters? program name
  2. diploma (plus 2 photocopies)
  3. list of disciplines taken during the undergraduate course with grades (plus 2 photocopies)
  4. written work on the subject of expertise
  5. national passport (plus 2 photocopies of pages with personal information)

Document are accepted in Russian or with notarized translation. If the diploma was issued outside the Russian Federation, it should be followed by the certificate of equivalence, obtained in the Ministry of Education and Science of RF.
The amount of scholarships is 15 (including 2 for ?Information systems for enterprise management?.
All applicants for full-time course (Russian students, both on scholarship and contract) are subject to following examinations:

  1. mathematics
  2. information science
  3. interview

Applicants are free to choose the following IDE during the information science test: Visual Studio 2008 (C++, C#), Eclipse 3.2 (Java), Turbo Pascal 7.0 (Pascal).
All applicants to evening courses take an oral examination in the field of expertise.
The written work must contain the subject matter of the chosen masters? field of expertise.
Enrollment of the contract students takes place after payment for the first term.
Dormitory is available on demand. Contract students have to sign an additional contract for the dormitory (if vacancy is available).
Full-time course takes 2 years (4 terms). The classes commence on September, 1; graduation takes place on June, 30. Syllabus contains classes in average 17 hours a week.
Evening course takes 5 terms. Deferred service and dormitory are not available.
Students, who have successfully completed the syllabus are admitted to final official tests: masters? paper presentation and examination in the field of expertise.
Those who successfully passed the exam and presentation are granted with masters? degree in ?Applied mathematics and information science? or ?Information technologies? with diploma issued officially.

The syllabus
Full-time course takes 2 years (4 terms). The classes commence on September, 1; graduation takes place on June, 30. Syllabus contains classes in average 17 hours a week. Full-time course students are granted with deferred service for the whole course.
Evening course takes 2.5 years (5 terms). Deferred service and dormitory are not available.
Each terms contains specialized masters? program in two parts with equal class hours: defined list of disciplines and personal research work with a supervisor.
At the beginning of the first term the students define their scope of research interests and a supervisor, make up an individual plan for the research and state the title of term paper and final paper.
Term paper is presented at the department workshop at the end of 2nd semester.
At the end two semesters students are given on opportunity to take qualifying examinations for the Candidate degree in philosophy and a foreign language.
