6 million cars worldwide

Volkswagen, the German car manufacturer, is recalling 2.6 million cars worldwide due to a range of potential faults. These affect its seven speed dual clutch gearbox, as well as possible problems with lights and leaking fuel lines on certain models.

One issue involves replacing the synthetic oil used in the gearbox of several of the VW Group products, totalling 1.6 million cars worldwide. It has found that vehicles subjected to hot and humid conditions (such as those in China and South East Asia), as well as lots of stop and go driving can suffer problems with their electrics. No such faults have been reported in the UK, but the car maker is offering a worldwide voluntary recall in order to replace the synthetic oil with a mineral oil, which has been found to prevent the problem.

VW is also recalling 800,000 Tiguans SUVs worldwide (about 30,000 in the UK) to rectify a possible fuse fault that could cause a problem with individual light functions. Only models built between 2008 and 2011 are affected, and the fix involves replacing the fuse with a superior version a job that takes just a few minutes.

More than 4,000 UK owners (239,000 worldwide) of VW Amarok pick up truck, meanwhile, will be issued with a recall concerning leaking fuel lines. The issue relates to models fitted with the 2.0 TDI engine and involves fitting some protection to the fuel lines to avoid accidental damage.
