The article’s subject matter — a theoretical basis for the value of the state — is inherently relevant to the public administration methodology. The current importance of the supranational organizations problem also increases the relevance of the article. The author demonstrates that the value of the state is based on the idea that the state is the motherland, shaped and unified by public law. Only the state can substantiate abstractions such as “nation” and “motherland” into something tangible. Patriotism, therefore, is expressed through strengthening and improving the state, by serving it.
