Struggle against Far-Left Terrorism in the EU: The Communication Support (Based on the Experience of Germany and Greece)

Today counter-terrorist struggle is carried out not only through special military operations, but also by means of a complex system of communication management. Law enforcement agencies use different communication channels and means, however their success depends on the communication strategy, which should be adequate to the expectations and views of the target audience. The article analyzes the experience of communication support of counter-terrorist activity in a number of EU countries. The author also attempts to identify the basic problems which the counter-terrorist structures face in communication counteraction to the far-left terrorism, and the basic trends of the law enforcement agencies’ work in this area. Research focuses on the case-studies of Germany and Greece, since those countries have the largest amounts of data on communication strategies with regard to the far-left, upgraded under the conditions of the global financial crisis available.
