The article is devoted to the historiographical analysis of the works of V.P. Akimov, one of the most consistent members of the economic direction in the Russian social-democracy. V.P. Akimov’s articles and books, still relevant today, including “Essay about the development of social-democracy in Russia” (1906), present the history of social-democratic tradition from the point of view of critical Marxism, and the development of Russian social-democracy is analyzed on the basis of the contradictions between the proletariat and intelligentsia, economics and politics, conspiratorial and democratic trends within the party.
