The Management System as a Factor of Technological Transformations in the Timber Industry of USSR in 1970-1980's: an Attempt at Historical Retrospection

This article is an attempt of historical analyses of the effectiveness of Soviet management system during the period of so called “zastoji” in 1970–1980s on the example of development of timber industry in the USSR. The topicality of this problem is defined by the fact that the problem of effective management in different systems of economy is still one of the most urgent problems in modern Russia. The historical retrospection of this problem provides an opportunity to make some conclusions: during the period of 1970–1980's serious shortcomings of Soviet management system in the timber industry of USSR resulted in numerous crisis events. These crises became more obvious against the background of technological breakthrough of some Western countries with highly developed timber industry complex, where technologies of management became an object of scientific research.
