The article summarizes the characteristics of the agricultural sector, its role in the national economy, some areas of government regulation, contributing not only to alleviating the backlog of serious failures in the reproductive process, financial-economic situation of chronical price disparity in agriculture, stopping the ongoing dismantling of the available pre-reform period of harmonized cross-sectoral relationships and the corresponding optimal proportions of agriculture of the country, but also to overcoming them in the near future. The authors developed an assessment tool for economic activity of the state, taking into account the features of this type of activity, which is particularly important and relevant to the modernization of the economy and overcoming the effects of the global financial crisis.
